Country star Alan Jackson helps young daughter as she grieves the loss of her husband

Alan Jackson, the iconic country music star, has enjoyed a successful career spanning four decades. With over 80 million records sold, membership in the Grand Ole Opry, and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017, his musical achievements are well-celebrated.

Despite his immense success, Alan Jackson and his family have faced significant hardships. The Jackson family endured the tragic loss of their son-in-law, Ben Selecman, in 2018. Ben, who was married to Mattie Jackson Selecman, tragically lost his life in a boating accident at the age of 28 while attempting to assist a woman onto a boat. He suffered severe traumatic head injuries and, despite immediate medical attention, did not survive.

Ben was an Assistant District Attorney at Davidson County District Attorney Glenn Funk, where his co-workers praised his sense of humor and dedication. His untimely passing left a profound void in the office.

Alan Jackson and his daughter, Mattie, co-wrote a song called “Racing the Dark” in response to this family tragedy. The song reflects their shared grief and is the first collaborative project between the two. Fans of the country star can download the song by ordering Mattie’s book, “Lemons on Friday: Trusting God Through My Greatest Heartbreak.” In her book, Mattie candidly shares her journey of coping with her husband’s loss and her reliance on faith for healing.

Alan Jackson himself has faced health challenges. He revealed in an interview that he has been battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a degenerative nerve condition, for the past decade. This genetic condition affects his peripheral nervous system, compromising the function of smaller, weaker muscles, mainly in his extremities. While it presents challenges in walking and balance, Alan remains determined to continue performing and touring.

Throughout the trials faced by the Jackson family, Alan and his wife, Denise, have remained a steadfast couple. They celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary and welcomed their first grandchild, Jackson Alvie Bradshaw, in December 2022. Their love and commitment have sustained them through personal and family challenges.

Prayers and support go out to Alan Jackson and his family as they navigate these difficult times.
